The Dresden Dolls fundraising print sale ...

Hey
I thought I'd post this here to raise awareness about a fundraising event on my Etsy to raise money for the defense fund of the West Memphis Three (WM3).

Many of you may have heard of them - three young men who were convicted for the murders of three 8 year old boys - with no evidence to convict them apart from the fact that they wore black, read pagan texts and listened to heavy metal music.

You can read about the case here: http://www.wm3.org/live/caseinfo/index.php

I've been lucky enough to have permission from The Dresden Dolls and World/Inferno Friendship Society to use photographs of them to raise funds for the defense fund.

My first photograph (of Brian Viglione) is on sale on Etsy now. ALL profit will go to the fund.

You can see the listing here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19336960

Please please please take some time to firstly read about the case - you may or may not agree with whether the WM3 are innocent - however - if you live in the USA you SHOULD be concerned about the continuation of their incarceration with NO evidence to convict them. Watch Paradise Lost 1 and 2 about the case also!

Then PLEASE purchase a print - go on - $20 to help these boys get a fair trial!

Sorry ... been crafting ...

So I've not been posting.  I've finally knitted something (I'll post the results once I take a photo of it) - I've created a crazy patchwork cushion cover for a friend, and now I'm starting on my first doll.

I've also started up my own etsy shop for my photography - you can find it here.

I thought I'd share this tutorial with you that I found for recycling old hardback books.  I can't wait to get my sewing machine to get started!

Recycled Hardcover Book Bag - perfection - I can't wait to make one of these!

Hair pins and knitting

Well, I don't know what's come over me but I bought some knitting needles and wool and started knitting.  I made this:

You can't really see what it is here - but it's a little purse.  Because I didn't have any zips I've decided to use it as a case for my contact lenses and solution.  I used Wendy Shimmer wool - which takes a bit of getting used to but it's very lovely and soft.

There are a couple of photos under the cut:
more of the purseCollapse )

ALSO ... I've been working on my prototype hair pins.  I have ideas but my sticks haven't arrived yet for me to play with so I thought I'd do a couple using chopsticks.  I painted them with nail varnish and then worked out a couple of designs.  They're not amazingly well made (I'm a bit clumsy when it comes to sticking things down - that's why I'm practising!) but I really quite like the ideas.  Anyway - here are a couple of photos - I'll try and do some tomorrow of me wearing them - perhaps.

WELCOME

This is my first community so please bear with me while I sort it out!
Thanks for popping in - please take time to read the description and bio - this is really important as I don't want this to be a dumping ground for Etsy ads :)

I thought it would be helpful if, when you join, you perhaps say a little bit about yourselves?  So here's mine:

Name:
Polly
Where are you?: London
What are your crafting passions?: at the moment making hair pieces and jewelry - although I've just started knitting again.  I also make cards etc. out of my photographs.
What would you like to take up?: I'd really LOVE to know how to sew and make clothes - my sister is giving me her old sewing machine so I'm hoping to get over my fear of sewing my fingers together to learn how to make my own clothes.  I also want to make bags, purses etc. out of recycled materials.  I have a student in my tutor group who has won 'young designer of the year' and she is amazing - I think, if a 14 year old can do it - why can't I?  I'd also like to be able to do more than knit one purl one in my knitting :)
Favourite crafting website/ book: www.threadbanger.com and www.etsylabs.blogspot.com
Photograph of recent craftyness?:

Well, there you go ... welcome one and all :)
